Aston Glaves Tribute

We regret to inform you of the passing of Aston Glaves on June 5th. We will forever be indebted to Aston for his decades of foundational work at  Project FIND, helping to develop and steward an innovative model of service delivery that we have been tinkering with ever since.  As we mourn his passing, we remember him as a true pioneer, wearing many hats and taking on a variety of roles. He first joined Project FIND as an advisor and then became Chairman of the Board from 1974 to 1980. From 1980 to 1988, Aston served as the Executive Director for Housing and Manpower, before transitioning to the position of Executive Director, which he held until his retirement in 1992.

Aston’s mark was felt everywhere, from the painstaking decades long reclamation of the dilapidated Woodstock Hotel to the professionalization of our center based senior services program.  He was also an organizing force in the larger community on behalf of affordable and senior housing whose fruits included the Harbour View Terrace NYCHA complex on West 55th Street completed in 1977.

His impact upon Project FIND has extended well beyond his physical days here.

“For the past 12 years he has been filling the gaps of institutional memory and lending me perspective on my struggles at the helm of our organization with that mix of kindness and optimism that is his hallmark.”
